Problems (No communication between Targus 870v2.0 & 3.40 OE-A PSP)

Hey there, I'd like to start by saying thanks for the app, I'm so glad the modders stepped in and got us a much needed psp keyboard. I can't, I don't even need to take my lappy with me anymore to use email when traveling. Sadly, i've yet to get it working. I think i've tried everything and read every support post on these forums so I'm thinking my keyboard might be faulty. But before I send it back and demand a new one, I wanna make sure it's not an error my end.
So here is where I am at. I have 3.40 oe-a installed. This was the first OE I used, upgraded from 1.5. I then installed piKEY .3 as instructed, and enabled both plugins. When I start my psp or homebrew ect, I get a 'piKEY is active' message at the top of my psp.
I have a Targus keyboard so therefore did not change any of the default .inis. It's a Targus PA870v2.0. I have changed to new battery's for it and set it up correctly. I wish there were some kinda indication lights that the IR and power is active. I did make sure the keyboards IR arm was correctly positioned (about 3 clicks up) with the IR head folded down. Hell I even aligned the IR's and tried it
I know the IR on my PSP works ok as I have the Universal remote homebrew ap, which works fine.
I tired installing with both options regarding the 1.5, I said no the first time and yes the second. But no matter what this keyboard just does not wanna talk to my psp.
Thank you for this app and your time reading my post, this will have many practical uses for me so I'l not quit until it's sorted

Make sure that the PiKey plugin (PIKEY.PRX) is enabled in the Recovery Menu for both VSH and GAME modes:
Turn PSP On while you keep the R Trigger button pressed.
When Recovery Mode appears (Green colored screen) select "Plugins" (press X to enter), then select the two PiKey plugins one at a time (Both VSH and GAME modes) and press the X button until you can read beside each one the message (Enabled).
Exit Plugins and Recovery Mode. You will them exit to the Sony´s XMB Menu. Try using the keyboard with the built-in browser or any homebrew compatible with piKey now.
If it does NOT work, please read all the info from the file
user_guide.html
within the docs folder in the compressed pikey_03.zip file.

I can't remember whether the Targus is actually selected by default in the configuration. You should check the pspirkeyb.ini file, and make sure that it has Targus selected. That seems most likely to be your problem.

Targus is selected as the default as far as I can remember.
He probably has not enabled the plugins from the Recovery Menu.

Check this visual guide from MaxConsole Forums to see if you are setting your keyboard properly.
http://forums.maxconsole....et/showthread.php?t=57243
Have you tried using the Keyboard Test Sample? If you see response to keypresses there you could discard faulty keyboard or depleted batteries and blame on the plugin configuration. If you do not see response at all, it would probably be faulty keyboard / depleted batteries.

when you start the PSP, do you see a notice at the top of the screen saying that piKey has started? If not then it is a problem with the PSP, not the keyboard. Try using a different memory stick, someone once got it to work that way.

There are known issues with any plugin (not just PiKey) and a specific memory stick brand (Lexar)

Hi all!
I have Targus PA870 v3.0, and i tried with some firmwares, 3.03 OE-C 3.40 OE, all M33, and not working, i read all doc directory, read all post, all guides but the keyboard don't work for me. Install OK, i activate plugin in VSH and GAME, reboot psp and see "Pikey ACTIVATE", test with pikey_sample program, and nothing. Perhaps a targus v3.0 problem?, i use pikey v0.3, and test v0.2
Can anyone help
Thanks

Hi Nosenose,
What you´ve just explained indicates PiKey is installed and activated properly.
Have you ruled out:
- Depleted batteries, and
- Wrong alignment of the IR Keyboard emiter and PSP IR?
If so, the only thing I can think of (and I know it probably is a long shot) is that the IDStorage key for the InfraRed port of your PSP is messed up, maybe due to the downgrade process. That´s just a guess. Google for Chilly Willy´s program called Keys Cleaner and try it to check wheter your PSP keys are OK.
Probably what I just said is a stupidity, but it might be worth checking.

Thanks wakaru.
I think that "Keys Cleaner" only work with TA-082/086, are this correct?
Mi psp is a TA-079/081
Alignment of the IR an psp are correct an batterie isn't depleted
.
I need pikey.......
, still working

Keys Cleaner will also work in TA-079/81 PSPs, but if you have one of these PSP motherboard the likelyhood that you have messed up the IDStorage keys is almost 0. Keys Cleaner is meant ot be for TA-082+ PSPs where IDStorage keys have been more than likely been altered due to older downgraders.
So yes, IDStorage keys in your case are not likely to be the problem, though you loose nothing running Keys Cleaner just to check if they are all OK.
As you say it all points to be a hardware issue. You can check using any other IR based homebrew application. I do remember an old homebrew application to transfer files between a PSP and other IR devices (such as mobile phones) through the IR port. Do not remember the name but it should not be too difficult to find via google. Another option is the remote function from IR Shell. If neither of them work, you are likely to be having a hardware problem.
I am not aware of any homebrew application that could check if the IR port works properly or not. One of those would be nice to identify hardware issues.
I am not aware either if the IR port / unit of the PSP could be swapped by a spare one. If it could be, that would be the solution I guess.

I run key cleaner with this OK result:
Code:
Checking Idestorage key 0x0004... original key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0005... patched key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0006... original key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0008... no key (code 0x80000025)
Checking Idestorage key 0x0041... original key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0042... cleared key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0043... original key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0045... original key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0046... cleared key - okay
Checking Idestorage key 0x0047... original key - okay
PSP is a TA-079/081
Key state: Unpatched PSP
I found homebrew PspIrda 0.0.1 in dl.qj.net to test transfer between PSP and my Nokia N73 phone and IRDA port work OK. I run it in debug mode and see one debug archive with hex values in both direction PSP -> Phone and PSP <- Phone
I'm desesperate, but still working
Wow;! I see this aplication to capture raw data from
the IrDA port and write it both to a file (currently
preset to ms0:/irdacapture) and to the screen.

There you have it. You are likely to have a faulty keyboard.
Since you say it's new I suggest you take it back for a replacement. Where did you buy it?
