first off just like to introduce my self
im spleblem and some of you might know me from pspmod.com

anyway
with pikey there is 2 types of connection you can use ir and sio, is this right?
sio is via the 3.5mm stero socket is that not correct.
and if this is correct can i rewire an old keyboard so it can be used via the sio connection.
if so does anyone have a circuit diagram.

my second question is with pikey, when you are typing say in the web browser.
does the screen with all the letters come up, or do you type directly on to the screen

hope that i have said makes sence
thanks in advance for any help.

Well hello spleblem... cool name!

You are correct. piKey works in 2 ways:

SIO - Which is via the 3.5mm stereo socket
IR - Which is via the IR port

Unfortunatly I can't assist you with the electrical side to it, but I can enlighten you to how it works.

Whe you are browsing the web and you wish to type something, you need to enter the OSK (on screen keyboard) Just incase you don't know when I say OSK, I mean the PSP keypad where you have to scroll over a letter using the D pad and pressing 'x' on your PSP to input the correct letter.

piKey is a very clever appliction. It recognises the key you press and scrolls over to the correct location and presses 'x' automaticly for you. That's how it works in the browser. There are many websites and portals you can download to enable your PSP to have instant messenager and emailing too!

Personally, I would bother trying to hotwire an old keyboard, but buying a brand new IR keyboard.

You can get them cheap on ebay and amazon. I recomend either Targus Universal Keyboard or a Palm IR keyboard. I would lean more toward the Targus.

Hope all this helps!

i was more hoping that Pikey didn't need the osk.

do you know of any homebrew apps where you can type directly onto the screen
light a word processor or homebrew internet browser.

It doesn't require the OSK, but to avoid using it means that the apps need to be set up to use the piKey API to read input.  I'm not aware of any apps that actually do that yet.

As for the serial connection, try: http://nil.rpc1.org/psp/remote.html

Try PSP-PDA v1.3 with IR keyboard support:

I gotta admit, it isn't the BEST homebrew app, but it's ok for a little editing. I sometimes use it to edit the settings in piKey!  Cheesy
