3.72 HX-2 support?
«

Hi, I updated from 3.40-OE to 3.72HX-2 today and I couldn't get piKey to work (doesn't load). Is anyone working on getting this fixed?
I really need pikey, but it doesn't seem like anyone's working on it (no updates for a few months now).
BTW, I'm using the palm universal keyboard.

Angelo has gathered a team to work on the Unofficial PiKey v0.4
Once released this version should work with the 3.71 M33 CFW
Since 3.72 HX CFW is based on the reverse engineering of the 3.71 M33, my guess is that Unofficial PiKey v0.4 should be compatible with it as well, but you'll never know until it's released. (You may want to contact Angelo to be betatester)
Angelo's last update said Unofficial Pikey is to be released around Xmas with a bit of luck.

Hello! Did anyone call my name?
Yes Unofficial piKey 0.4 is on the way and we're working on making it work for 3.71 / 3/72 kernel PSP's.
Please note:
The will be 2 versions. A 3.71 and above kernel version and a 3.52 kernel and below version!
Thanks guys!
I my ask people to test with HX's CFW too just to be safe!

I downgraded to 3.71 m33-3 ... still doesn't work.
Why is it an unofficial release? Did the original developers quit?
I read in the other palm universal topic you were talking about making drivers. I can get you all the ir codes for every key, but I’m not sure about which format you're using. BTW before piKey came along, I programmed a text editor in Lua that would read my keys from the keyboard. I remember that piKey didn't have direct Lua driver support so I didn't finish the editor and hoped that someone would come up with a native text editor using piKey (I don't have the time and the will to setup the C dev environment using a Linux emulator). I hope that you add this to the next release since Lua is way easier and faster to program with for simple 2d program.
I hope someone does create a text editor that supports piKey since that will leave only drivers in the way from it working with any keyboard.

Unofficial piKey 0.4 will have 3.71 support.

No... but the creater is a father to a baby boy and as you can imagine has little time on his hand, so we're just filling in his place for now!
I read in the other palm universal topic you were talking about making drivers.
Yes... after launch that's our new issue, but now we're focusing on release for the moment.

There is already a brilliant application you can use as a text editor / writer. It's called PSPWrite. It's created by a guy called ZX81. Nearly all of his applications has IR keyboard support. Also, all of his applications are coded in C, which is a lot faster than LUA (although more difficult to master.) piKey will also work in homebrew too, and has a Danzeff mode, so making it work with your apps isn't an issue unless you are planning in making
another
word editing app. (Which personally there is no point doing as PSPWrite is brilliant.)
I hope someone does create a text editor that supports piKey since that will leave only drivers in the way from it working with any keyboard.
Already done... also, IR applications are created using what's called a PSPIRKeyB lib. This is an up - to - date database of all the PSP IR keyboard drivers and keymaps. That way developers can keep up to date with each other. We are also editing the PSPRKeyB lib to make it better and adding new stuff. Incorporating IR support isn't easy, but isn't too hard either. For info in developing apps with IR support, you're best to email ZX81!
Hope this all helps!

That won't be necessary since the Palm Universal (3169WW) is already supported and the driver for it works very well. The problem is that piKey 0.3 just isn't compatible with CFW >3.52M33-*.
The guy in that other Palm thread has a P10946U which, according to the Palm website, is a "Palm Wireless Keyboard", not the "Universal" (which is why it's not working at all for him I suppose).

Yes yes...
At the moment, making piKey working for us for PSP's with kernels over 3.71 is a very frustrating a difficault issue.
Everything else (apart from the documents) is done.
Like I said, we'll be focusing on drivers after, but we'll need help from you guys on the forums, as you guys
have
the keyboards!
Thanks!

Yea, I found pspwrite 2 mins after I wrote that msg. It does work with my keyboard (3169WWR), but it has very little functionality. The only things you can actually do are move with the arrows, type and erase text in the most basic form. The creator didn't even incorporate the key press/hold delay to make it easier to go through a large file (using the analog with the keyboard is not comfortable). To tell you the truth, I hoped for at least a mouse-joystick function or something.
I might contact him and give him my code so he can add many of the notepad functions in or something (I even got scroll bars to see where you are in a document).
As for piKey and homebrew lua; Danzeff mode is the reason why I didn’t see pikey as compatible with lua in the first place. Emulating key strokes and running an input mode will just takes way more processing than contacting the program directly. Besides, getting Danzeff to load on the normal lua player without an error seems to be impossible (only worked on the custom and my program gave errors because it has a higher version code).
I hope you guys won’t have too much trouble finishing pikey V0.4, and I wish Fanjita best of luck.

As for the
"key press/hold delay to make it easier to go through a large documents easier"
... it's been implamented in piKey 0.4! We contacted the creator of PSPWrite (ZX 81) and gave him the code!
Maybe in the next release of PSPWrite there'll be key repeats!
