Hey all,  just got a psp:

piano-black psp slim with firmware 4.01

Followed directions to hardmod the battery into a jigkick, totally severing the connection as indicated in various places on the internets but upon insertion of the battery, nothing happens and once power is turned on, it still boots into the original XMB, with and without the MMS.  what's the deal?

NOTE: The connection on battery is *definitely* severed.  I mean I'll crack the board if I chip away at it anymore.  Will post pic if needed.  And I severed the connection vs. removing the pin from the chip.

SO: If the jigkick is made properly, it should always go into service mode, even if I have the evil TA-088v3 mobo? ie: should always turn on automatically upon insertion of the jigkick.  (with and w/o the MMS)?

Any help would be great....
Frustratedly yours!

EDIT:  sorry if the post is in the wrong area...  I have no forum etiquette

First off... you NEED a memory stick with the correct files on. Without that, you're busted!

Moreover if the battery is converted, you shouldn't have to flick on your PSP power switch.

Take out your battery and pop it back it and see if the green light lights up.

Note that some battery's cannot be modified. Check out WaKaRu's guide. Smiley
