I installed the 1.5 Kernel with 3.71 M33, which, as it stated in the installer, disables the Location Free Player function of the PSP system. This is not too big an issue for me, since I'd prefer the 1.5 functionality over the Location Free Player, but I have read that it is possible to re-activate the Location Free Player after installing the 1.5 Kernel. Is this possible, and, if so, can someone post a tutorial/guide on how to do it? I don't need the Location Free Player currently, but I like to have options : )

Also, if the Location Free Player is re-activated, will it disable any of the other functions of the custom firmware?

Thanks!

Basically you'll have to delete some fonts from the Flash memory in order to make some room for the Location Free Player files.

Of course you will not be able to set the PSP language to Korean or chinese after that (Well, you could, but you will get a BSOD everytime you try).

I read somewhere a tutorial removing the Korean and Chinese fonts, and then using PSARDumper to extract the needed files for the Location Free Player. Once that's done just copy the files to the PSP flash memory.

I'll try to find the tutorial sometime today (when I finished work) and I'll post it in this forum for you.

In the meantime you can just google it. Sure you can find tons of tutorials about it in several other forums.

PS: In my opinion it's not worth doing this unless you really have a Location Free Player, which by the way is something very little people have due to its really expensive price.

Location Free Player Feature on 3.52 M33
========================================

------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUESTION:
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I own a Location Free Player and am unable to used it on my 3.52 M33 psp.

Is there a way to get this feature back on my psp, even while having 3.52 M33 firmware?

Anyway to work around this?

Thanks in advance.

ANSWER:
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go to recovery mode
advanced
connect usb cable
toogle flash0
delete 'dic' folder
download PBP Unpacker from http://www.pdc.me.uk/pbpunpacker.php?
download 3.51 or 3.52 sony eboot
use pbpunpacker to get data.psar file
decrypt data.psar file (using psardumper/team c+d decrypter)

copy these files to flash0:

vsh/nodule
lftv_main_plugin.prx
lftv_middleware.prx
lftv_plugin.prx

vsh/resource
lftv_main_plugin.rco
lftv_rmc_univer3in1.rco
lftv_rmc_univer3in1_jp.rco
lftv_rmc_univerpanel.rco
lftv_rmc_univerpanel_jp.rco
lftv_rmc_univertuner.rco
lftv_rmc_univertuner_jp.rco
lftv_tuner_jp_jp.rco
lftv_tuner_us_en.rco

Done

As for CFW 3.71 M33, it should still have the location player unless the 1.50 Kernel Addon has been installed (in which case location player and the korean font are removed during the installation process). In this case the process to re-install the location player would be pretty much the same though since I've never tried I do not know if there will be enough space free in the flash memory for it (keeping the 1.50 kernel addon and location player at the same time I mean) though I reckon that it will probably befeasible.

Make yourself a BIG favour: Read the damm README.TXT files and make use of the SEARCH function of this Forum.
You wouldn´t believe how this simple advice could sort your problems out so fast

Sorry Wakaru... but don't try mucking around with the flash0 when you want to use the location free.

Just simply install devhook. It's safer and a lot easier (in my opinion). Many find DevHook a nightmare to install.

Angelo did you try it with a ps3, and does it work?

what version of devhook would you use and what wirmware would you emulate?

i belive devhook worked only up to 3.03 (Huh) and the remote power on feature is available since 3.72 so that would not have the full desired effect.
Probably i missed something since i dont have a ps3 ':)

actually DevHook emulates up to 3.11.

Is it possible to make a dump of 3.73, and use the Pandora Menu to emulate it? I heard it can be done...

@daveyostrow please give a link Smiley
i could not find anything on google below US 29.99$.
Also you would need a Base Station the cheepest one i found came for US 199.99$ the most expensive one as the PS3 ^^

@Angelo 3.11 is not so bad, i should have a look into that Smiley
And concerning homebrew from the memorystick the latest problem was that you could start umd's only with problems and homebrew with 'hard reset on homebrew' in recovery enabled.
Also if i recall right there was a problem with higher firmwares but i will have a look into this too Smiley

Loonix, I could be wrong, but I don't think the PS3 is an actual Location Free base-station. Rather, I think it uses its own connection to do a direct connect (either via private wireless network or via the net) to a PSP which has already been "linked" to the system. In essence, this works the same way as a Location Free connection in that you can view movies, etc. via the PSP, but you can not do other Location Free things, like watching live TV. So, I think the "remote play" feature of the PS3/PSP is actually something separate from Location Free, but based on a very similar principle.

As far as I know, the remote-play feature still works on custom firmware, meaning it has not be deactivated like the Location Free option. I have a PS3 and have used the remote-play feature with my PSP before (prior to going to custom firmware... I haven't tried it since), and it is completely separate from the Location Free option in the PSP menu. As for remote turn-on, you are right about it being in the PSP since 3.72, which the 3.72 HX-2 custom firmware SHOULD provide (since it should be completely separate from Location Free). That's actually the main reason why I was considering going from 3.71 M33-3 to 3.72 HX-2, since it'd be nice to do remote turn-on and use my PS3 from anywhere in the world, without having to leave it fully powered-on all the time (though activating remote turn-on on the PS3 does leave it in a low level "on" mode all the time).

Anyway, the only real reason I was asking about Location Free in the first place is because I don't like having the Location Free menu-icon there if it doesn't actually do anything... it's kind of an obsessive-compulsive thing for me ; )

I guess, ultimately, it is not really important, since I don't actually own a Location Free base station at the moment, but, as I said, I like having the option, even if I don't use it. Yes, I know, it's silly. Still, I don't think I'm comfortable messing around in the flash memory just yet, so I guess it'll have to remain deactivated, and I'll have to ignore the useless icon. Thanks, though!

Yepp, i just read it up.
The PS3 is no location free player as i thought  Shocked sorry.
But the remoteplay feature is not so bad eighter.

there are modded XMB's for the 3.52m33 at least that remove the icon
and if you are ready enough to read it up you should be able to get this done for 3.71+ themes.
But that cant be 'official' themes ^^
