I have been toying with this idea for a while, would it be possible to create a PSP mic type headset using the PSP white remote control and a mobile/cell phone hands free kit. I imagine it would involve opening up the PSP remote control and soldering on the wires from the hand free kit as I have not seen a hands free kit with a 3.5mm jack plug to date.

Is there any reason why it would not work provided the wiring was correct?

Has anyone tried this before or what’s your thoughts.

Yeah, it is totally feasible.

All the information you need is HERE.

The above is a similar proyect involving creating an adaptor to use a PC headset with the PSP (via de Remote), however it would be dead easy to do the same for a Mobile headset. Instead of modifying the PSP Remote I would suggest swapping the mobile headset 2.5mm jack for a 3.5mm jack compatible with the PSP Remote ad you are good to go. Only downside of it is that the Mobile headset is Mono instead of stereo.

I did my own adapter for a PC headset following the instructions above, and I´ve got to say that I was tempted to buy a cheap mobile headset in the Poundland shop to do another one, but considering it was mono I decided it was not worth it.

If you decide to go for it and struggle let me know and I´ll help you out with the wiring.

I decided against opening up the white PSP remote as I was afraid I would snap something as it did not just open up after taking the screws out, but as luck would have it, a work colleague came to the office today with his new Blackberry together with stereo hands free headset (part no.HDW-14322-001) which has a 3.5mm 4 contact jack plug and as he has a bluetooth hands free he quickly handed it over free of charge. So anyone looking for a cheap headset for you PSP it is worth looking around the house first for all those hands free kits that never get used just in case you find something suitable.

I was actually thinking of making my own soon, as I have a real one and I can figure out how to do it without either the stupid Sony remote thing or official headset.

@ kloplop321

I'm afraid you still need the remote.

Tell you what... they're flipping expensive in the shops!

£30 for a Go! Messenger / Skype headset.

There're tiny Chinese men working 23 hours a day working their fingers to the bone for a £30 headset!

Sony's mocking us!

ON TOPIC: I hate to break it to you there Kloplop321, but the remote is esential for the mic support. You'll notice that the PSP Micaphones have a funny jack lead. Normal PC ones have two seperates jack for the mic and phones.

It's not impossible, but flipping hard!

I am actually doing electrical tests right now to know what goes where
Posted on: June 15, 2008, 05:45:25 PM
sadly it all is going through an electrical chip which has safe guards, which means that the transmission is digital and not analog.  Sad I was hoping to do something like that..

its a hardware thing, the SIO takes digital signals not analog. meaning I would have to get a transformer.

@ kloplop321

I've just uploaded a document to www.docstoc.com which may be of some help in your experiment:

How to make your own PSP SIO connector without tearing apart your remote controller

I could not upload before because my HD is a mess and I could not find it untill I came across it %)

I hope this helps.
