I have never seen any ill effects on my PSP when i used it without a battery and just the plugged in original charger.

The downside is that any interruption of the powersource switches off the PSP and you have no standby power when you pul the plug.
so, i think it is safe for the PSP but unsafe for your over-time game experience.

yea it works on my psp and i plan on buying a new battery sometime soon. its sort of hard to find the psp 1000 battery in stores now of days.

you are right, they are hard to come by, always where Cry
you can get tem on ebay or amazon.
I am quite happy with the MaxPower battery i bought on amazon for my psp 1000.
(it is pandorizable. that cant be said about most of the cheap batteries you can find on ebay)

check dealextreme.com they usually have old psp parts for sale. ive had good experiences with them
