ok, first are the newer custom firmwares better than the old ones? are the "rare" ones around any special?
can an sd card with a duo adapter be used for the pandora? (edit: my bad, thought the duo adapter would fit an sd card)
i just got a slim psp so as far as i can see i need an old psp battery to get started, or just to make things easier get a pandora ready battery?
is the pandora a fail safe system?
what happens to a pandora battery? i know it cant be used but whats its deal?
i need some clarification about what the kernal is about.
what firmware should i get? whats the difference between these 2?
    * 3.52 M33-4 (Installaion Guide / Tutorial in our Forums)
    * 3.71 M33-3 (Installaion Guide / Tutorial in our Forums)

im sure ill have more question but i need to be pointed the right way. feel free to add some key notes that are important... like not upgrading with sonys firmware because that will screw me (right?).
thanks

Anybody could guess that yes... what would be the point of newer CFW if there are not improvements from the previous ones? ;-)
I do not know what you meant by the rare ones.

No idea. Try and let us know.

Yes. Whichever is better for you. It should not be too difficult to make your own providing you have another homebrew-capable PSP available to use (That means another PSP already in CFW or 1.50).

Yes, considering that it is able to unbrick PSPs.

Triggers the Service Mode in the PSP. A pandorised battery will make the PSP boot in service mode. The battery needs to be un-pandorised in order to make the PSP boot normally again (or just simply use a spare regular battery or the A/C cord).

The differences can be read in the "Changes in 3.71 M33" section in the 3.71 M33 - CFW Installation Guide / Tutorial .

If you have a Slim PSP in 3.71 OFW you'll only be able to install 3.71 CFW.

Since I see you're a bit lost I'll summarise what you need to do:

-Follow our Pandora's Battery (Jigkick Battery & Magic Memory Stick) Tutorial / Guide to produce a Pandora's Battery and a Magic Memory Stick.
-Modify the Memory Stick by using "Despertar del Cementerio" v3 from Dark_Alex.
-Use the Stick and battery in yout PSP to install 3.71 M33-2.
-Once you're on 3.71 M33-2, you can follow the section in 3.71 M33 - CFW Installation Guide / Tutorial that talks about installing the latest patch (Currently the Update 3).

There some other ways to get it (like buying the set already done from some scumbag at disproportionate prices hence making a real profit from this), visiting our thread where there's people willing to help you doing it for free (or a small voluntary donation), or going for the pandora hardware mod / Datel Tool Battery and obtaining the "ilegal" unencrypted files from Internet.

I will not be helping anybody chosing the latest option for obvious reasons :-o

thanks that clears things up.
my next question is about the game exploits. is it easier to do?
does it make a difference that the slim cant have the 1.5 kernal?
someone in my area has the kit with 3.60 M33, if i convince him to help me out is that ok?
once i have the custom firmware do i still need the pandora battery to do updates?

yes, your friend with 3.60m33 can help you to make a full set.
i belive to modify the battery under 3.60m33 you will need the 'open yource pandora tool'
that you cant find on this page, sorry Sad

Once you´re on Custom Firmware you will not need pandora for the updates.

can i just replace the 3.60m33 on the mem stick with the latest one?
can an already pandora battery be reverted since i dont have its original file settings?
Posted on: November 29, 2007, 08:44:31 AM
wait wait... what would happen if i just used the 3.60m33? his slim psp had it so why wouldnt it work with mine?

so i bought the pandora kit with the 3.60m33, and i need the 3.71 M33? i dont want to make a mistake so what should i put on the memory card?

the despertar del dementerio is the first 'service mode firmware installer for slim PSP's'
it installs 3.60m33 and you need to press some buttons blind.
(the slim screen was not supported by that installer. after installing 3.60m33 everything should be fine)
read the manual Wink

after you have installed it you should update to 3.71m33-3 or 3.72HX (or how that new strain is called)
the 3.60m33 had some problems if i remember correct.

and i dont belive you can simply replace the files.

Also... the Sony memmorystick pro duo 'high speed' with the red stripe is not sooo fast.
Most sandisks are much faster.

ok so im suppose to use that firmware first. i then install the update (theres only one update file from what i gather but its the third version).
i dont know if the 3.72HX is reliable, is its advantage being able to play the newer games?
i read that its good to flash dump the psp, how do i get this done?

good to know that sandisk is faster, thanks.

side note: whats the advantage of the fat psp having the 1.50 kernal?

Posted on: November 30, 2007, 02:48:12 AM
shouldnt i be able to put CFW 3.71 on the memory card and not have to downgrade? isnt that what the "El Despertar Del Cementerio" is?
Posted on: November 30, 2007, 04:09:24 AM
when i insert the pandora battery the screen turns on but its blank. i press x and it turns off...
in the M33_360_INSTALL_LOG it says "Not the expected IPL"
Posted on: November 30, 2007, 04:40:57 AM
ok, the pandora MS was used for his daxter psp, which i assume was 3.60. i need help getting the files to what they should be, so im thinking i should get the El Despertar Del Cementerio.
Posted on: November 30, 2007, 05:02:53 AM
as confused as i am i got the El Despertar Del Cementerio memory stick to work. but before i do any updating i want to backup the psp. the menu says the [] button should do it but what button is that? (i tried the oval button but nothing happened)
ok, i fugured it was the square. my brain isnt working at this hour.

so my last question is if how the pandora battery was made makes a differene.
thanks again.

The advantage of having 1.5 kernel is that you can play homebrew designed for 1.5.  The 1.5 kernel is the base that everything started off from and there is a lot of homebrew that is out there specifically written for 1.5 since it is compatible with everything. (except psp slims)

[] is text shorthand for the square button.
O is shorthand for circle.

i now see its for homebrew, there is a folder thought aclled game150 which im assuming is for that.
i also heard that you can unlock the cpu speed from 333 to 666 or something similar to that.

there are 3 directorys for homebrew: \psp\game \psp\game150 and \psp\game3xx
sometimes it is a bit tricky to figure out in wich your homebrew works.

for the recovery menu hold the richt trigger while starting the PSP
for the On screen configutation press 'SELECT' while in XMB
in both you can change the CPU speed Wink
