I have a 3.40 PSP- And I want to downgrade using the Illuminates exploit; I have the copy of Lumines and the necessary files.. However I haven't been able to find any good information on hacking from a 3.40 firmware (specifically). I've been searching forums for days on this subject, but can only find guides indicating 3.50 hacks and 3.10-3.50 hacks (which, I assume would cover 3.40).

My question was: Should I try to officially update my PSP to 3.50 and then run the exploit, or should I run the exploit from my out of box firmware of 3.40?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The downgrader NEED to be run from a 3.50 PSP.

Please read the instuctions from the Downgrader_HOWTO.txt file within the downgrader zipped file. They ARE quite clear.

Quote

Instructions
------------
Here are the steps to downgrade any 3.50 PSP to 1.50:

1  - If you have a 3.50 PSP skip to step 6

2  - Download 3.50 update from here:
   http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firm...pg/12/fid/13840/catid/163

3  - Unzip and place the file in :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE

4  - On the PSP, run the 3.50 update from the memory stick under the Game menu.

5  - Delete :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE

6  - Copy the contents of the folder MS_ROOT from the 3.50 downgrader ZIP to
     the memory stick

7  - Unzip the 1.50 update to a temporary folder. Rename the EBOOT.PBP to
UPDATE.PBP and copy it to :/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ .   DO NOT
     OVERWRITE PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP!

8  - Load Lumines and press x to start the game

9  - The screen will clear to black and fill with a light blue colour, then
     the PSP will reset itself

10 - Check that HEN is running by going to system settings, then to
"System Information" and it should show up as system version
     350 HEN

11 - If it is showing up as HEN then go to the memory stick and
     run the x.yz update

12 - If you have an unpatched TA-082 or higher motherboard, you will be
prompted to allow the downgrader to patch your motherboard so it
can be safely downgraded.  The downgrader will not let you proceed
without patching, if your motherboard requires it.

13 - Before the downgrader does anything to your PSP it will ask
for you to agree to what it is doing, if you no longer want to
continue press the Right Shoulder Button (R-TRIGGER).

14 - Once you have agreed to start the downgrade do not unplug the
PSP, or try and restart it

15 - Once finished the PSP will ask you to press X, and reset itself

16 - If it comes up saying that the settings are corrupt, press x
to continue, this will mean you will need to re-enter the
settings for network connections into your PSP, otherwise go to
     step 18

17 - Load the included NetConfigBackup application in your PSP, and select to
restore, this will take the backup that was done of the network config
that was done automatically during the downgrade.

18 - All done now :-)  Hopefully you now have a 1.50 PSP.  Enjoy it responsibly.

Thanks alot- I've already completed the 3.50 upgrade successfully! I did have one more question: in the steps you've listed, it mentions backing up Network Configurations as part of the downgrade- right now I do not have a wireless access point for my PSP and cannot connect wirelessly; Will this effect or hinder the downgrade process?

Obviously not, just forget about that since it is not aplicable to you. You should not be bothered about that at all.

Everytime you swap firmwares the wifi connection settigs are lost and it´s a really pain in the *rse to enter the WEP/WAP key manually to set it up all again. That step is just to backup your WiFi settings automatically without having to be bothered to re-enter the settings manually afterwards.

Ok so my PSP is on 4.0 and I know I cant use the exploit to downgrade from this.

I just got my hand on Lumines and Sony is up to 3.51

Clicking the link from the readme:
http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firm...pg/12/fid/13840/catid/163

So far so good. Click the link to download the file and I get directed to:
http://dl.qj.net/dl.php?fid=13840

This the redirects to:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/d...s3QxtqpMPuOtcNpVHDTe5k%3D
And i get the message can’t find the server “s3.amazonaws.com”

Is the 3.50 firmware available anywhere else to download?

Thanks.

The link works pretty well for me.

Try using a different internet browser (Firefox) or a different computer.

If not you should be able to find it there as well -> http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1164

By the way, how possibly could your PSP be on v4.0 Firmware when the latest is the 3.51?
