So i wanna use the 2.8 improved downgrader and HEN from
http://www.noobz.eu/jooml...8-downgrader-updated.html
The problem is, after about 20 times of my psp freezing, i got a pale blue screen. (didn't encounter a red screen). i tried the cube demo and polyphonic demo that came with HEN. when i started them i got a pale blue and they worked, showing an orange screen when i exit to the main XMB.
i was about to use the downgrader, when i just wanted to be sure hen will be active. i restarted  the psp, and now when i try to run one of the demos i get "The game could not be started. (80020148)", meaing that HEN is not active? what should i do? should i try i try to run HEN again or admit my psp is retarded and never try to run homebrew.

Please read the instructions, there is a reason why the call the file README.TXT:

Quote

(...)
- The HEN patch will remain resident in memory, and even entering sleep mode
won't delete it. Only a hardware reset will remove the program from memory.

- When you do a hardware reset, you'll have to run the tiff again.
This time there will just be the pale blue screen and xmb reboot, since this time there is
no need to write to the flash.
(...)

So yes, you do have to run the exploit again everytime the PSP is turned off. Your PSP is not retarded Wink

The TIF exploit is quite unstable. In order to make it work more efficiently (this means, less number tries due to PSP freezing) try either of these:

  • Set a custom wallpaper. Anything will do. And then try again, or
  • After entering the PHOTO menu of the PSP, select the HEN D folder, wait 5 seconds,  and then press the START button.

I hope this helped.

i did read the readme.txt, i guess all i needed actually was some clarification, as i got confused because this line

Note that a pale blue screen will appear again every time the PSP reboots with HEN active.

made me think HEN is always active, and by "Hardware reset" you guys meant changing motherboards or flash memory.
I had a custom wallpaper all the time, and actually the first time i got HEN active (that was about half a year ago.. i just forogt about my psp) was by entering a slideshow. i am now going the try to run HEN about the tenth time now, i guess you just gotta be lucky. i'm sure it'll run soon enough, tho.
Thanks alot for your quick help, and keep surprising everyone! =P.

***EDIT***
ok it worked in about the 50th time (no kidding)..
just 1 more quick question- what are the odds of bricking with the mentioned downgrader? i just need plain %

No mate, hardware reset means as in when you reset a PC or any other machine (This is turning it off and back on).

You´re welcome, but I´m just a PSP user. Nothing to do with Nobbz Team. So you should be thanking them.

I would say 99.9%...
No offense but the other 0.1% is down to the stupidity of the person downgrading due  to failure in reading the instructions properly (or not reading them at all!).

I would say that the critical step is:

Quote

- If running a ta-082 PSP execute the 2.80 idstorage changer. It needs 75% battery.
It will change some keys of your idstorage needed to downgrade the ta-082.

With the 2.80 downgrader, it´s the user who must run the Idstorage changer manually based on whether or not your PSP is a TA-082+. If for a chance yours is a TA-082 or TA-086 and you skip that step... you WILL get a brick.

Newest downgraders (3.03 and 3.50) will do it automatically for you since they autodetect your motherboard during the process, so they are less risky fro that point of view. On the other hand thay require a specific game for the downgrade.

So the choice is yours.

If you choose to use the 2.80 downgrader just make sure you know if your PSP is a TA-082+ and run the IDStorage changer accordingly. Then you will be 100% safe.

- Get the official sony 1.50 update eboot and put it in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder with the name of
UPDATE.PBP

i'd need a lil help here.
The files in MS_ROOT which i need to copy to the root of the memory files are in lowercase folders (game, psp) while UPDATE is uppercase. it says in the readme u need to put the eboot in in uppercase named folders (PSP, GAME).
it this a mistake in the readme, do i need to make new folders or it doesn't matter?
btw
sorry for bothering you so much.

I did not write the instructions for the downgrader, but  I would say that it´s all in capitals just for emphashis more that for any other reason. Let´s not forget that it´s explained in a sinple ASCII file where you cannot use bold or itallics.

Nevertheless It just takes 3 seconds to capitalise the folders, so that´s all you loose by doing it. I don´t think it´s too relevant myself though.

The 'UPDATE' is the only one that actually needs to be uppercase, otherwise the XMB will report that the update EBOOT is corrupted (or similar error, I forget the exact one).

The others (psp, game) are listed as uppercase just because consistency is less confusing than inconsistency.
