Last thing i want to do is end up in the idiot box, so I researched first but can't find a clear answer.

I have a Japanese T82 PSP that I bought (unfortunately) with 3.51 firmware. I think I am pretty clear on how ro Pandora/Magic stick it back to 1.5. What I'm not sure of:

-will custom firmware allow me to play my legally purchased PAL and NTSC movies? I can't play NTSC now, and live in the US, this sucks.
-will custom firmware interfere at all with playing my legally purchased PSX roms that I buy from Sony's PSX service?
-Are there any other features that won't work? I have read that RSS and some web functionality go away with the customs.

Basically, I'm not talking about illegal stuff here, just want max functionality and to play US movies and legal roms I legally buy or backup. Thanks for everyone's hard work!

I'm not sure if it being Japanese has any interference, you might want to wait for Wakaru to confirm that.

To play those movies you have to convert them to a format that the PSP can read. Just hacking it wont make a difference unless your able to find a homebrew video player that plays those formats.
Try converting them. I suggest

I'm pretty sure it can convert NTSC movies.
No, it wont interfere. Custom firmware is basically regular firmware and a bag of chips. Its everything before with more.
Basically all the features stay. I wouldnt worry about missing anything unless you use Korean font or the Location Free Player.
I dont think it messes with the RSS, but if it does there are plenty of homebrew RSS readers.

I think he refers to UMD movies (NTSC as opposed to PAL) On that regards, CFW PSPs can change their region to a different one through the Recovery Menu (meaning that a JAP PSP can act as a US PSP). In terms of playing UMD Movies from different areas there are contradictory reports. Some users say they were able to play UMD movies from different areas after using this emulation and some others say they could not. I have a JAP PSP and live in Europe, so I do not have access to US UMD Movies and hence I cannot try and verify if this information is true or not. I can only suggest you give it a try and who knows, you may be surprised. In case you try, let us know ehat happened because I´m curious Smiley

Regarding your legally purchased PSX games from the PSN Store, I believe the latest Despertar del Cementerio (v5) from Dark_Alex back the contents of your F0 memory 8where the Settings from the PSN Store are located) before installing the CFW, and then it copies them back so you still keep all the settings once you are in CFW. So if you do use pandora, make sure the memory stick has been done using DC v5 rather than an older version or even the original Pandora Release which probably won´t backup those contents and therefore you will have to purchas those games again.

Finally the only feature that disappears in the CFW on Fat PSPs is the Location Free Player, who almost nobody owns, so you should not have a problem with that. There is even a way to recover it in case you want to install it afterwards.

Thanks very much for the prompt responses, you guys. That was just what I wanted to know, that I can shift between NTSC-PAL modes. I will let you know with the UMD based ones as well, I bought this thing from Lik-Sang a million years ago so I could get ceramic white when we couldn't get it in the States and never got around to hacking it up. I will let you know what happens Smiley

As for your Japanese PSP not playing NTSC movies I hate to burst your bubble there, but Japan uses NTSC format like the USA the only difference is that America is region 1 and Japan is region 2. But both are running NTSC. As for games and everything don't worry about that. I have a Japanese PSP (since I live in Japan) and I am able to play US PSP Games without problem, only the movies and music are region coded, even though on the back of the case of the games they say what region they are, don't listen to them they work.  As for the reason why Sony put the region coding on them in the first place was because of the MPAA they wanted the region codes.
