Hey all. Here's my question:

I have a 3.03 PSP that I'm looking to downgrade. The official thread on this mentions "The PSP´s AC adapter must be plugged into the mains". However, my AC adapter broke some time ago so I've been recently using a USB charger.

Would the downgrader still work using a USB charger rather than a mains charger, or would it brick? Has anyone tested this?

Thanks in advance.

Getting the PSP plugged to the mains in the process is just to make the process as foolproof as possible in making sure that if the battery pops out or its charge suddenly drops in the process there is a power backup which would to avoid any bricks.
Laptop´s power supply through the USB port is not as good as from the mains, however this is just a power backup procedure as to prevent any unforeseeabe circumstances.
If you are willing to take the risks, the chances of unforeseeable circumstances, and hence any bricks, are pretty low.

Alright, thanks for the explanation. Just to be 100% sure though:

- Could you please clarify when you say power supply from the port is not as good as the mains? Like how bad is it - say my battery fell out, would the USB charger provide suitable backup?

- If there are no unforeseeable circumstances, will the USB charger be just as effective in downgrading than a standard AC adapter?

Try for yourself by removing the battery and connect the PSP to the laptop via USB and see if it turns on. Try playing it or using it for about 10-15 mins.
If it does not turns off then it should be as goos as the mains.

Again, plugging the PSP to the mains (or USB) is not essential in the process as it is a power backup prevention only, thinking in preventing any potential bricks given the worst case scenario.

I hope this clears things up.
