Hi,

A collague of mine claims that when I downgrade, my PSP will go back in clock speed (processor Mhz speed).
He says that Sony raised the clock speed in one of the official Sony firmwares...
Is this true?
Does downgrading affect the game play in a bit more speedy game like Need for Speed?

Hi,

From what I've heard a 3.50-3.51 PSP runs at normal CPU speed, it only raises when you play a game designed for the higher CPU speed.
Currently that's only Ratchet and Clank size matters.

Second, if you install a custom firmwire on the downgraded PSP you can easily change the CPU speed to the correct one.
So your collague is wrong, your CPU speed won't drop and you can raise it if you want to play a game that requires the higher speed.

Hope that helps Smiley

Okay great to hear this Ricco!
Forgive me if I am asking a stupid question now but where can you change the CPU speed once you install a custom firmware?

You change that in the Recovery Menu.

Have a look at this guide http://tinyurl.com/yrmh25 and look for CPU Speed.

You will notice that you can set the speed for both the GAMES and the XMB separately, so basically with Custom Firmware you have FULL control of your PSP´s processor speed at any time, unlike the official firmware where the PSP decides whether the game requires full power or not.

Bear in mind that the highest the speed the least your battery will last.
