Wow,
it is rare to see a psp with that firmware nowerdays Smiley
I am a bit rusty but you should be able to do it all by yourself without a second PSP.

As far as i see it you need to upgrade to 2.00 OFW before you can use THIS GUIDE to downgrade to 1.50.
Then from 1.50 you should be able to use THE 5.00M33-0 INSTALLER to install 5.00m33 custom firmware.
Then you should update to 5.00m33-6

Before each step read the full guide.
If you have questions ask them.
There are no stupid questions. Only a PSP that wants to be used Smiley

thanks for the reply, i will do it later tonight as soon as i get out of work. ill be sure to ask questions as they come to me. i know it has to be rare lol  Cheesy, i bought it when it first came out played it a few times and just put it away. i recently found another one that i got an incredible deal on and have been playing that, that one is updated with newer firmware . so while i was playing that i had gotten the idea of playing emulators and looked around on the net. alot of stuff was really confusing so i checked my old psp and seen the firmware was really outdated and probably easier to downgrade, from skimming through the guide it seems like it is. which makes me very happy im very excited to get it done today.ill definitely hit up this thread later and let you know how it goes. once again thanks

the 200.pbp file you downloaded does not need unzipped, use it in its current format

ah, sorry.
The update goes to the directory:
/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/eboot.pbp

then you can start the update from the XMB in the game section.
(remove the UMD before you update so you dont install the wrong update by accident!)

funny thing is now when i connect the psp to my computer the computer doesnt read the memory stick as being formatted. i ran an auto format from the computer and it read a 4gb stick as 1.67gb. i unplugged it and formatted it using the psp (which read it correctly as a 4gb stick) and then played and saved "twisted metal head on" after that i restarted my pc and it still isnt reading the memory stick and wants to reformat it.i think im starting to get fustrated, would it just be easier to downgrade my other psp which has 2.60 firmware ??

No, defenetely not.
the 2.00 firmware has a fault that allows you do downgrade using a .tiff image (and some fancy programming).
That fault is fixed in later firmwares.

I belive 4 GB sticks are just supported by later firmwares but i can be wrong...
If you can please try another Memorystick, the 32MB one that came with the first PSP's should work.
if you cant get another stick... try to format your 4GB one temporary to 1 or 2GB (what a shame) with windows.

//EDIT: *NARF*
i should know this field '^^
you can use the 2.80 Downgrader ofcourse,
It utilises the above mentioned .tiff exployt. The 2.00 downgarder uses another flaw '^^
But from above 2.80 firmware you need to meet the requirements (The Games GTA:LCS or Lumines).
