It will work in the same way. The only thing is that the Red Datel battery is already made, no need for conversion, so just skip the steps in the guide for making the battery. Just follow the steps to get the magic memory stick and that´s it.

Did the battery not come with instructions at all?

What a rip off. You should have purchased a regular battery and made it yourself.

Ho my God what a rip off =(

So the Datel "Tool" battery is realy only the Battery?
No instructions or hints where to get the rest?

That is plain evil! =(

Exactly what I thought....

Why it did not surprise me?

@nomad
Unfortunately you will need a homebrew capable PSP to make the memory stick too... You´ll have to find someone to make you the memory stick. That´s why the battery on it´s own is worth "nought".

hmm, not completely
the files that you need to make it can be sent by email
(the PSP part) and the finishing can be done on the PC

But as the Memmorystick files are Copyrighted by sony it is illegal to send them
So, you will in the end still need to find a friend who gives them to you =(

Well at least he was investigative enough to find the Noobz pages wth the "TOOL" in hand

I dont want to know how many units are sold and never used
because the poor buyer did not know what to google for =(
Maybe Noobz should take those keywords into its META text

I think when nomad has come this far he will find his way.
Nomad dont give up!

What a bloody disgrace, expecting the community to provide support for their commercial product.

Personally I'd send the damn thing back to Datel and demand a refund.

so far this is a piece of sh't. datel should be reported. so far there web page is not letting me place any kind of comment of the product, and there are no one elses comments. hmmmm i wonder. now i will try to give them a call again to see what kind of tech support they give. when i was trying to purchase this thing. i got the run around. when i tryed calling to talk to anybody alive it said all lines are very busy please leave a message. which was never returned. three times i left one and everytime i called for help they were very busy all day long. so i'm thinking now that somethings up. there based in england and have a setup here in the states. i'm going to try to get this to work some how and will let you all know what happens.lol  thanks all so far for your help. I just tried to find anything out by myself

Futile o.O
as far as i see it they sel things via codejunkies.com
there is no faq for the TOOL battery, the forum is closed
there is no closer description of the Battery but:
Quote

Special TOOL version of our MAX Power PSP Battery designed for use in original PSPs (not the new slimline model).

  • Special TOOL version of our PSP battery works in exactly the same way as a standard SONY PSP battery but has the ability to put your PSP into service mode for custom firmware use.
  • TOOL functionality is hard-coded into the battery.
  • 1800mAh Lithium Polymer cell for use in original PSP consoles

Please note: The TOOL functionality is hard-coded into this battery to put the PSP into service mode. This functionality cannot be disabled.

Which is deciving because
a.) the Service mode does not enable Homebrew. -.-
b.) you cant use it normal daily use because you cant disable the Service mode
(each coldboot brings you to a black screen without a Memmorystick with a custom IPL and Boot menu)
c.) They dont give any hint how to do any of those things...

Black-Ninja did you format the MS in the needed way?
(first used mspformat.exe and then msinst.exe with msipl.bin?

what does the PSP do after you inserted the Battery
and how does the file structure on your MS look like?
