so to make sure I have this right just stick the folder "game" from the ta82downgrader and the files "game", "HEN_280", and "Photo" from HEN_280 folder right onto the psp memory root screen? They don't need to go in their normal places from a reformatted mem stick?

@ guyintheredjacket

Just uncompress the contents of both ZIP files (ta82downgrader.zip and hen280.zip somewhere in your HD) and then copy anything inside the MS_ROOT folder into the root of your Memory Stick (but excludint the MS_ROOT folder itself, so just copy its contents).

The folder structure should be as follows:

sorry but your picture only raises more questions on the correct place to put everything. All I can do is explain were I put everything as follows. I put the "game" file from the downgrader into the Original PSP file from the root on the memstick then relacing the original psp folders "game" file with the downgrader "game" folder. Then I took the files "cube, ipldump, ect into the that "game" folder (from the downgrader). Then stuck the "PHOTO" folder and replaced the original PSP photo folder. And lastly I put the "HEN_280" in with the Original PSP folder from the root with the folders "COMMON, MUSIC, GAME, SAVE DATA, ect. So as you can see I am totally confused and need an idiots guild to help me through this part... luckily I backed everything up so you can just guild me from the begining if thats easier to you guys... and thanks for the help I know I'm being difficult.

I just can't explain it any simpler that I did above.

Follow the guide and  read the instructions CAREFULLY and SLOWLY. It should be dead easy.

The archive = the .zip or .rar file you downloaded.
The folder structure should already be in there.

@ wakaru: o.O perfect timing of the last post above me! congratulations ^^

Hi

Succeeded in upgrading to 2.80

Having trouble with the rest of it.

Copied the relevent contents of the 3 zips to the relevent places.

I go to photo mode, all i see is the hen_280 folder, select that and i just see a gif file of a chicken, nothing happens, no hanging, no red screen, no pale blue screen.

What have i done wrong?

Cheers

i've figured out what the problem is

My pc won't extract the loader.tiff file as norton picks it up as containing a virus 'bloodhound.exploit.166'

Are these zips safe and virus free and if so how do i extract the tiff?

Cheers

these are safe, yes ^^

your virus scanner just identified the exploit that makes the downgrader tick *gg*
No exploit -> do execution of unsigned code -> no downgrader Smiley

Trust me, it's not a virus.
Your antivirus is giving you a false positive.
Just unload (deactivate) your antivirus from memory (so it's not running) and uncompress the zip contents to the Memory Stick.
Once finished, and the PSP has been disconnected from your PC,  you can activate the Antivirus again.

All done now, thankyou.

So now i'm on 1.5 i can run homebrew, but i understand that a custom firmware will give me the benefits of new OFW too.

What are these benefits? Does anywhere list what they are in newbie numpty terms?

Also, i assume i can now remove all the files from my memory stick? Or do i need any of it to run homebrew stuff?

Cheers
